Painting wall art - the Creamsicle Tree

It was my mum's birthday earlier in the week and I had this idea that I would paint a picture for her. But it's been a long time since I've held a paintbrush, and it ended up taking me 2 weeks to get this extremely simple painting to an acceptable level!

I had fun with the wet paint and wanted to leave it with this texture, and with the tree etched into the thick paint (below)....

But they were acrylics, not oil paints, so overnight it dried flat and lost all the texture. It ended up looking nothing like how I had envisioned it (frustrating!).

A week later, after a tiring day of rustling my way through a pile of architecture papers (I got to design a concrete slab. Woot go me) I finally got around to finishing this off tonight.

Yep, I painted it right here at my computer desk.
 And now it's finally presentable.
I don't know what it is with me and trees - it seems when I have a paintbrush in my hand it just draws lines by itself and they end up joining up to make a tree. I never consciously sit down to draw a tree, and I don't have a tree obsession - I guess I just love lines.

I had planned to fill the whole thing in as a black silhouette but after a few strokes the lines happened and I decided to leave them like that.

Now just to decide where to put it!

I named it the creamsiscle tree simply because of the colour palette, and I just like that word. (We don't have creamsicles here! Or at least not by that name).
